Congratulations to senior Skye Rodman on being accepted into the Iowa All-State Art Team for her portfolio of drawings and paintings. She will receive a plaque during an awards ceremony next month at the Des Moines Arts Festival. There will be a permanent display featuring a poster of her artwork during the festival. Lastly, her painting titled Pin Cushion will be available for purchase at the MVHS senior art exhibition and sale at Abbe Creek Gallery. The opening reception for the art show will be Thursday, May 8 from 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm and the artwork will be displayed for two weeks.

The May/June district newsletter will help you stay up to date on senior and graduation events as well as provide highlights on the elementary Kids Heart Challenge, the middle school 5K fundraiser, the many fine arts activities, and upcoming summer camps. The Drake Relays are always an opportunity to watch some amazing track athletes compete. The Mount Vernon girls’ track team had several athletes competing. Libby Dix in the discus (4th place) and shot put (19th place), Evelyn Moeller in the 800 (7th place) and 1500 (12th place), Eastin Whisner in the 400 hurdles, Cali Whitaker in the 100, the 4×100 relay team of Lucy Wischmeyer, Kara Swantz, Olivia Haverback, and Grace Hale, the 4×400 relay team of Evelyn Moeller, Eastin Whisner, Kiersen Swart, and Cali Whitaker (8th place), and the 4×800 relay team of Eastin Whisner, Kiersten Swart, Sam Schoff, and Evelyn Moeller (10th place).
Evelyn Moeller broke her own school records in both the 800 m and the 1500 m.
Congratulations to all the student-athletes and head coach Kory Swart!
